The Institute of Technical Chemistry was established in 1985 on the basis of the Department of Chemistry of the Institute of Continuous Media Mechanics, Ural Center, USSR Academy of Sciences. Klyachkin Yury Stepanovich, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was the founder of the institute and the first director from 1985 to 2000.

Currently, the institute includes 7 laboratories.

In 2017, the Institute became part of Perm Federal Research Center UB RAS.

Director - Vladimir Nikolayevich Strelnikov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor.

Main research fields:

• Creation of materials based on organic polymers and inorganic compounds with a complex of predetermined physicochemical, mechanical properties and structure.
• Development of the theory of chemical structure and methods of synthesis of organic compounds, including those with biological activity.
